Some days I feel so wound up like a Jack in a box ready to pop!
Those are the days where even the simplest of tasks feel overwhelming and incredibly daunting! Where my mind is racing a million miles an hour thinking about all the things I need to do, but my body just seems to stand still unable to comprehend where to start.
Parenting three small children I often have days like this, okay so most days I feel like this even if it is only during a small part of the day. The bedtime routine can bring out the worst in any good parent, when you have three little people determined to make it take as long as possible. This always seems to happen when I am super tired or still have a million and one things left to do for the night before I can sit down and relax (relax, um yeah pass out in exhaustion!).
I know everyone says to enjoy this season and not to worry so much as soon it will be a distant memory that I will long for! This is meant to be comforting and some days it can be quite comforting to know that parenting little people will turn into parenting bigger little people with different challenges!
In the moment of trying to get them to bed or to do anything we want/need them to do, it can be easy to overlook the fact that they are still so little and still learning to navigate the challenges of this big world! Sometimes life can be overwhelming for us as adults, how much more overwhelming can it be for little ones who are still learning to navigate their own emotions and beings.
So take heart in knowing that no parent has perfect children all the time and no parent is perfect all the time. We all make mistakes and are all still on this adventure of life and learning.
The following are some scripture verses I find helpful and often take comfort in after a long day…
30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,3 though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.
