The way a child loves her mother…

Finding joy in the small things!

The above is a picture of my beautifully painted nails! Well to my four year old Miss E they are beautiful! My first response when she asked to paint my nails was ‘oh really do you have to, can’t you brush my hair or something else less messy’. Of course she refused!

I thought about it for a moment longer…what harm would really come from this, other than my  messy painted nails – none, no harm. However if I refused to let her paint my nails I would have missed out on a beautiful time of bonding! Miss E took so much joy in being able to paint my nails.

So often I think we spend all our days looking for the big things, when there is lots of joy to be found in the small things. The little moments are often the memories that we look back on with immense fondness!

How often do we miss the seemly obvious little moments that God puts in our life because we are frantically searching for the bigger ones!

Children especially are sponges they see everything. The good, the bad and the sometimes ugly that life has to offer. Are we to busy rushing from one thing to the next to realise that we are missing out on some of life’s greatest joys? Life will always be busy, there will always be something important that needs doing.

and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:3 ESV)

But people and relationships are important to. I think they are the most important part of life. Without people and relationships, life becomes isolated, dull and maybe even boring.

Often it doesn’t take much to add some joy to a persons life, in the case of my 4 year old, being able to see herself as a big girl and paint her mummy’s nails was a great joy for her. One that no-doubt she will remember for a long time to come.

Why don’t we take the time this week to be intentional with our actions, time and words, and see what joy we can create in the lives of those around us! I would love for you to post in the comments what joy you created this week.

For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you. (Philemon 1:7 ESV)

Blessings to you x
