To dream takes courage, to inspire requires action…
Our life’s journey begins with our spirit. Our spirit first has to be empowered and given life to by Gods redeeming Spirit. As humans we all have experienced the sense of receiving energy and ideas from an outside source. A source that runs through us yet is not controlled by us.
John Ortberg in his book ‘The me I want to be’ describes being in-spired as “a Spirit-word that literally means something has been breathed into us…when your spirit flourishes, you are most fully alive. You have purpose for living. You are drawn to put on virtue and put off sin.”
So how do we become inspired? How do we live our days being in-spirit with God? With his amazing plans for our lives?
Firstly, I believe we need to allow ourselves to dream…to dream for the unexpected and to dream big. Not allowing ourselves to be limited by our circumstances.
God given dreams still require hard work and perseverance. They won’t always happen immediately or even in the season we think they should…but they will happen!
Secondly, I believe we need to find our focus and our flow…we need to get into a rhythm of maintaining our dreams. By this I mean that we need to be chipping away at them on a regular if not daily basis. Even if it is just taking the time to read through them and working out what the next step is. We need to reflect on the progress we have made as it is often so easy to become overwhelmed with how big our dreams may be and how much more we still have to go.
Thirdly, I think it is important to share our dreams with those who will encourage us in them. This is important as we need to share them with people who will inspire us to keep working on them but who will also call us on it when we are not giving our all. Not everyone in our lives will always truly understand our visions and purpose. Some may think they do but will unintentionally pull us away or will try to speak different dreams and goals into our lives.
There is no quick fix to remaining inspired, we can’t expect to flourish if we are not willing to put the effort in. I think that to truly flourish in any area of life we need to be putting effort into every area. Not necessarily the same amount of effort all at once but focused attention on the important things in life, God, family and relationships.
Finally I think we need to always have room to inspire others…never get to busy that you don’t have time to help others learn to flourish!
Blessings to you all xx
