Abundance of God…

I used to believe that receiving God’s abundance meant being prosperous on earth, social status and having material possessions. I for many years was the type of person who would say to God, when or if I have lots then I will be able to do so much for Your Kingdom. Little did I realise that my view on this would come crashing down. Not that it is wrong to have lots and be blessed with plenty, but that it is more important to live abundantly with what we have already been given. Freely we have been given so freely we should give!

I sit here now with no big amazing story of how God has taken it all from me and taught me to live just with Him. I have had my fair share of ups and downs, but God has always been there to see me through. There have been times where our finances were so tight that on paper our budget was well beyond balancing but God brought us through, He ensured that we did not go without our needs. But I do sit here in amazing awe of how wonderful the God we serve is. I believe for some people they will have amazing stories of how their world has come crashing down and God has been there to save them and I also believe that there are people in this world that God prompts into obedience without having to do something drastic.

When I think of God’s abundance, these are some of the scriptures that jump out at me; –

The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. (Psa 16:5-6 ESV)

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psa 16:11 ESV)

One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple. (Psa 27:4 ESV)

All that matters in this life is seeking God first and foremost. It doesn’t matter if you live in a caravan park or a multi-million dollar mansion. It doesn’t matter what you look like, or what country you live in. God can and will still work in your life. God wants you to draw near to him in every season of life, whether you have little or a lot. God is our inheritance, he is our joy, may we forever dwell in his house being able to gaze up at the glory of the Lord.

All God wants is that we would give him everything. Honestly what does it matter if you have the world at your feet but do not have the love and mercy of God, I tell you it matters nothing. As Christians our reward is in Heaven, our blessing belongs to God.

No human has the authority to give you blessings only God can, as He is the author and creator of everything and He deserves and desires our lives to be completely for Him. I would rather have nothing on earth and know that my Heavenly Father loves me and is looking after me. I know nothing is too big for God and nothing to small.

How can we live in abundance when we feel small and insecure, well firstly we can hold steadfast to Gods abundant love, and then we can give of our time, resources and talents as we have them. It doesn’t have to be anything big or extravagant to show Gods abundant love, it can be as little as catching up with someone for a meal or helping do a small task, wherever you are gifted and talented in I am sure if you ask God to use you he will make an opportunity known.

Father, you alone are my inspiration, like no other.

I thank you for the unquestionable wisdom, grace and love, you continue to show me.  Without Your unchanging mercy, where would I be today?

With your words you created the heavens, stars, the moon and the sun.

He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, whom God made our wisdom and our righteousness and sanctification and redemption. (1Co 1:30 ESV).

Let those who fear the LORD say, “His steadfast love endures forever.”(Psa 118:4 ESV).

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, (Psa 8:3 ESV).
