Let the dream take hold…

“The only thing worse than starting something and failing… is not starting something.” — Seth Godin.

I dream of being a full time writer. I dream of spending my days in quaint coffee shops, in boutique hotels and by the seaside, just me and my pen. Writing. Right now the quiet and tranquil of that dream seems heavenly as I steal a minute away to quickly write my thoughts down, while my children are entertaining themselves for a few short minutes.

“Dreams are necessary to life.” – Anais Nin

So how do I turn that dream into a reality? I can’t just pack up and disappear for a few months at a time to write. I have a family, a husband, and responsibilities to take care of. So how do I let that dream take hold?

“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney

The only way to let our dreams take hold is to make the time for them. Each and every day, even if it is only fifteen minutes – it is better than nothing. We can accomplish a lot in a short amount of time if we really want to.

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” – Harriet Tubman

We owe it to ourselves to live out our dreams. Who knows where they may take us! When dreams become realities I believe we truly start living the live we were created to live.

“As long as a man stands in his own way, everything seems to be in his way.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

I believe that God created us to live out our dreams – think about it, who planted those dreams in your heart in the first place?

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Why do we let our fears take hold of us?

“There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask, why? I dream of things that never were, and ask, why not?” – Robert Kennedy

I am afraid of failing at my dreams. What if they are crazy and deluded, what if I  have got it wrong and I’m not meant to be a writer. What if, what if? I could sit here and wonder about the ‘what if’s’ of my life and you could to. Or we could choose to take action on one of the dreams we have deep within us and give it our all. At least we will have tried and it is better to try and fail and to have never tried at all.

“Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it!” – Goethe

So I am going to give writing my all, alongside my many other dreams.

“Dreams pass into the reality of action. From the actions stems the dream again; and this interdependence produces the highest form of living.” – Anais Nin

I encourage you to take some time to dream, and to then act upon those dreams. Even if we only start super small. A small start is still a start; and better than no start at all. Who knows where we might end up if we allow ourselves to first dream a little and then act upon our dreams.

“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.” – Anatole France
